LESSONS ON INVISIBLE PERFORMANCE: LIQUI MOLY
|Zoë Dimitriadis
The spectacle of Paris Fashion Week is the outcome of a system. Behind every runway look is a complex network of people, processes, and technical expertise—an invisible performance that determines the exceptional result. For STABLE, the Spring Summer 2027 womenswear collection, LIQUI MOLY was part of the hidden machinery. The engine is now laid bare, revealing the motion of the joints and the friction of the valves.

Intercontinental Engines
Fittingly for an auto-service firm, the LIQUI MOLY collaboration began on the road, with a truck carrying the 032c Mode atelier from Berlin to Paris. If the images of fashion are ethereal, the labor behind their creation involves heavy lifting and long-distance transport. The team loaded the truck not just with the racks of the STABLE collection, but also with the raw hardware of the atelier, including desks, swivel chairs, computer displays, 20-kg sewing machines, and the office’s beloved coffee dispenser. Also on board was a prized decorative object of the equestrian-themed show: a Hermès saddle submerged in a tank of protective foam. With obligatory rest breaks, the 1,050-kilometer drive between Berlin and Paris took ten hours spread out over two-and-a-half days. The truck itself became a moving canvas for LIQUI MOLY’s graphic language, extending the collection beyond the runway and onto the machinery that drives it. Transport isn’t just accessory to a fashion show; it’s part of the performance itself.

The Atelier as Pit Crew
At first glance, 032c Mode and LIQUI MOLY inhabit different worlds. The delicate silhouettes, sharp aesthetics, and sleek lines of fashion contrast with grease-stained hands, cold steel, and machinery of a world uncompromisingly built on functionality. The softness of fabric meets the hardness of metal and elegance clashes with utility. Yet the industries of fashion and motorsport are connected by the same principle: a high-performance system depends on obsessive attention to behind-the-scenes detail. While engineers fine-tune every component in the pit lane, designers, pattern cutters, and stylists refine every detail backstage. Success is not accidental in either industry: both the engine room and the atelier boast a team of specialized professionals, trained to make countless adjustments for the optimal result. Worn by the 032c backstage team and select LIQUI MOLY guests during the runway show, the 032c | LIQUI MOLY cap identified the “drivers” that were responsible for powering the event forward.

From Behind the Scenes to the Runway
Moving from behind the scenes to the runway itself, the 032c | LIQUI MOLY blouson takes center stage as a key look of the collection—a statement piece that opens the SS27 show. The blouson brings the language of Formula 1 to the 032c runway, turning the uniform into an expression of auto machinery. The show-specific insignia also draws on the functional language of racing teamwear: the date, time, and location of the show are incorporated into the graphics next to the LIQUI MOLY logo. Lastly, the color white connects the workwear of the fashion atelier with the overalls of the mechanic’s garage. Both become a surface recording the traces of labor, be it through oil stains on overalls or loose threads on a uniform—a shared language of craftsmanship. Even after the clothes come off the models and make their way back to the 032c atelier in Berlin, the pieces of STABLE carry forward the expertise of behind-the-scenes actors, circulating beyond Paris Fashion Week as a reminder of the hidden machinery behind the collection.
